The Relationship Between Health Anxiety and Cyberchondria in Asthma Patients Amid the HMPV Outbreak in DKI Jakarta

This study aims to examine the relationship between health anxiety and cyberchondria in asthma patients amid the spread of the Human Metapneumovirus (HMPV) in DKI Jakarta. HMPV is a virus that affects the human respiratory system and can worsen the condition of asthma sufferers, triggering public concern. In today’s digital era, many individuals rely on the internet to seek health-related information, which may lead to excessive information-seeking behavior and heightened anxiety. This research employed a quantitative correlational approach with a total of 396 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The instruments used were CSS-12 to measure cyberchondria and SHAI to measure health anxiety. Data were analyzed using Spearman’s rho correlation test, which showed a significant positive relationship between health anxiety and cyberchondria (r = 0.562, p < 0.05). This means that the higher the level of health anxiety experienced by asthma patients, the greater their tendency to develop cyberchondria.
