Abstract

Adolescence is a developmental transition shaped by interconnected social constructs. This period is marked by heightened emotions, particularly in relation to parent-adolescent relationships. During adolescence, individuals begin to form personal relationships, develop value systems, establish a sense of identity, and seek independence from their parents. This strong desire for autonomy often leads to challenges, as the push for independence is not always accompanied by close relationships with others, resulting in feelings of social isolation. Such isolation can eventually lead to a sense of loneliness. A close parent-adolescent relationship can support adolescents in developing social competence and overall well-being, as reflected in aspects such as self-esteem, emotional adjustment, physical health, and a deeper self-understanding that helps them navigate through crises. This study is a non experimental descriptive quantitative research. The participants in this study were adolescents aged 15–18 years. The study utilized correlational analysis and data processing was conducted using SPSS 22. The results showed a significance value of 0.000 (p < 0.05), indicating that the research hypothesis is accepted. There is a relationship between parental attachment—both maternal and paternal—and adolescent loneliness. Specifically, there is a negative correlation between parental attachment and loneliness. This means that individuals with secure attachments to their mothers or fathers are less likely to experience loneliness, or are more capable of coping with it. Conversely, adolescents with poor attachments to their parents are more likely to feel lonely and struggle to manage their loneliness.
