Abstract

This research aims to determine the effect of using an abacus on the numeracy skills of grade 1 children at SDN 09 Belakang Balok. This research uses a type of quasi-experimental research, namely two-group pretest-posttest design research with a quantitative approach. The data collection method in this research used a pre-test and post-test method. The data obtained was analyzed using descriptive statistical analysis and then clarified using tables. The subject of this research is the subject of this research is the 1st grade students of the 09 Belakang Balok State Elementary School, totaling 20 students divided into 2 class groups. The results of this research show that the activities in the experimental class and the control class show different mathematics learning outcomes, namely in the experimental class it is clearly visible that the learning outcomes of the experimental class students are higher than those of the control class students. This is proven by the pretest results, the average student learning outcomes for the experimental group was 41.00, and the control group was 46.00. The posttest results with the average score obtained by the experimental class were 89.00 and the control class was 66.00. Judging from student learning outcomes, experimental class students are better than control student learning outcomes, this shows that the use of abacus media has an effect on student learning outcomes. Based on these data, it was concluded that the results of learning mathematics using the abacus media were better than those of students who did not use the abacus media.
