The Influence of Emotional Intelligence Against Verbal Aggression on Social Media

The aim of this research is to examine the influence of emotional intelligence on verbal aggression behavior on social media. This study employs a quantitative method with non-parametric analysis using Spearman's rank correlation, as one of the variables is not normally distributed. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling, with a total of 113 active social media users across Indonesia, consisting of 53.1% female subjects and 46.9% male subjects. The analysis results indicated a significant finding in the study of 0.028 (sig < 0.05) and a correlation (r) of -0.207. Furthermore, 76.11% of the subjects reported experiencing explosive anger in the last three months. From this data, it can be concluded that there is an influence of the emotional intelligence variable on verbal aggression behavior on social media, with a negative relationship. Higher emotional intelligence is associated with lower verbal aggression, and lower emotional intelligence is associated with higher verbal aggression. Additionally, 76.11% of the subjects are suspected of exhibiting pathological verbal aggression.
