The Contribution of Social Media Addiction to Academic Procrastination Among Final Year Students at Padang State University

A student is someone who is studying at a university. The many problems experienced by final students when completing a thesis make them reluctant or lazy. This delaying behavior is called academic procrastination. The study aims to determine how social media addiction contributes to academic procrastination in final year students at Universitas Negeri Padang. This research uses a quantitative approach with a correlational research type. The population measured in this study were final year students of Universitas Negeri Padang. The research sample was taken using purposive sampling technique with subjects consisting of 107 respondents. The instruments used in this study were the procrastination scale and the social media addiction scale which were arranged using the Likert model. The data obtained were analyzed using simple linear regression analysis techniques. The results of statistical analysis show the value of r = 0.464 and R square = 21.5%, which indicates a significant contribution between the independent variable (social media addiction) and the dependent variable (academic procrastination) with a significance level of 0.000 (<0.05). In conclusion, the higher the social media addiction, the higher the academic procrastination in final year students.
