Abstract

The pressure to fulfill household needs encourages housewives who initially only carry out the responsibility of taking care of the family to participate in earning a living, one of which is entrepreneurship from home. There are encouragements behind the phenomenon of entrepreneurial housewives where housewives run a business from home in the midst of busy taking care of the family. The subject in the study is a housewife who runs Mutiara Syar'i Muslim handsock business from home. The subject was selected using purposive sampling technique. This study aims to explain the experience and motivation to start a business on the owner of Mutiara Syar'i. This research is a qualitative study with a phenomenological approach. Data collection was carried out by in-depth interviews with Mutiara Syar'i owners. The collected data were analyzed using Miles and Huberman data analysis. The findings obtained 2 themes from the big theme of motivation to start a business. The first theme is intrinsic motivation which consists of the desire to be productive from home, having the ability to sew handsocks, the desire to have their own business. The second theme is extrinsic motivation which consists of the desire to help husband, difficulty working outside the home, business opportunities and family support.
