The Influence Of Rejection Sensitivity On Fear Of Intimacy In Establishing Romantic Relationships Among Married Young Adults

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of rejection sensitivity on fear of intimacy among married individuals in young adulthood. This study uses a quantitative method with a simple linear regression design, the sample was selected through purposive sampling, targeting married adults aged 20 to 40 years residing in Padang City. The study involved 203 participants, consisting of 132 women and 71 men. The data collection was conducted using the Fear of Intimacy Scale (FIS) to assess participants' levels of fear of intimacy and the Adult Rejection Sensitivity Questionnaire (A-RSQ) to understand rejection sensitivity. The results of hypothesis testing showed a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05) with a regression coefficient of 1.265 units. These findings indicate that rejection sensitivity significantly influences fear of intimacy in a positive direction among married adults residing in Padang City. The findings indicate that young adults who are married in Padang have good intimacy with their partners. However, some young adults were also found to exhibit attributes related to the anxious of rejection.
