Abstract

This study aims to determine the differences in social comparison among social media users based on gender and developmental stage. This study uses the social comparison scale UDACS (The Upward and Downward Apperance Comparison Scale) developed by O’Brien et al., (2009). The sample in this study amounted to 384 active social media users with an age range of 18-30 years using a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis used in this study used the non-parametric mann-whitney U test with the help of IBM SPSS Statistic 25 for window. The resuls of this study show that H1 is 0,003 (p < 0,05) which means Ha1 is accepted and H01 is rejected, meaning there are differences in social comparison of social media users based on gender, while H2 is 0,111 (p > 0,05) which means Ha2 is rejected and H02 is accepted, meaning there are not differences in social comparison of social media users based on devolopmental stage.
