Abstract

Nursing students face various pressures during clinical practice, such as high academic loads, patient care responsibilities, and pressures from the practice environment. These conditions can trigger stress that impacts mental health and academic performance. One factor that can help students cope with this pressure is self-compassion, which is the ability to be kind and understanding of oneself when facing difficulties. This study aims to determine the relationship between self-compassion and stress levels in nursing students during clinical practice. The method used in this study was a quantitative method by distributing questionnaires to nursing students. This study used the Self-Compassion scale and the Perceived Stress scale, where both measuring instruments met the requirements for reliability and validity. The data obtained were analyzed using normality tests, linearity tests, and hypothesis testing. The subjects in this study were 117 nursing students from the Padang Ministry of Health Polytechnic who were undergoing clinical practice. The results showed a positive relationship between self-compassion and stress levels. Self-compassion contributed 48.7% to the variation in stress levels in nursing students during clinical practice.
